Overview

• Travel/Contract RN role in Labor and Delivery
• Night shift: 3x12 hours, 18:45–7:15
• 36 hours per week
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Location: Lees Summit, Missouri

Unit Details

• L&D and postpartum share the same physical space
• L&D has 11 labor rooms and 5 triage rooms
• Postpartum has 15 rooms plus 2 flex rooms
• Average daily census: 7–10
• Rooms: 28
• Beds: 33

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Missouri
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Labor and Delivery experience within the last year
• Labor and Delivery (3 years of experience)
• One completed travel assignment
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• NRP issued by American Heart Association or American Academy of Pediatrics
• Post Partum experience
• Pending license accepted
• Home address must be at least 75 miles from the facility
• No more than 7 days of RTO
• 2 professional references
• Unit-specific skills checklist within 1 year of start
• Employment application required
• Government-issued ID required
• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Fit test required
• Tdap vaccine or declination required
• Negative TB documentation required
• Drug testing within 1 year of start
• Flu vaccination or exemption required during flu season
• HIPAA acknowledgement required
• Latex allergy questionnaire required
• Confidentiality form required
• Regulatory compliance education required
• Hep B declination required
• SSN & DOB confirmation required

Schedule Requirements

• 4–5 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period
• Minimum of 2 Sunday night shifts and 2 Friday day shifts per 6-week schedule period
• 2 on-call shifts per 6-week schedule period

Float Scope

• May float to postpartum to provide couplet care or care for postpartum mom only

Clinical Skills and Experience

• Antepartum and intrapartum care
• OB triage
• Low-risk labor and delivery
• Sterile vaginal exams
• EFM / external fetal monitoring
• Internal fetal monitoring
• IUPC placement and calibration
• Recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
• Circulation for C-section
• Recovery after C-section
• Vaginal delivery and cesarean section care
• High-risk delivery support
• Forceps/vacuum extraction
• Neonatal resuscitation
• Breastfeeding/lactation support
• Postpartum hemorrhage care
• VBAC management / trial of labor
• IV starts and infusion pumps/drips
• Blood and blood product administration
• Magnesium sulfate, Pitocin, prostaglandins, terbutaline, insulin drips, antihypertensives, antiseizure medications
• Isolation precautions/PPE
• Vaccine administration

Additional Notes

• Patient assignments are based on acuity per AWHONN staffing standards
• L&D nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:1, but may be 1:2 or 1:3 depending on acuity
• PeriWatch fetal monitoring application and Phillips Avalon fetal monitors are used
