Opportunity:

RN - Tele

Job Details:

• Day shifts run from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM and night shifts run from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• Every other weekend rotation required
• 50% of holidays per contract expected
• Low census on-call possible for up to 36 hours per contract
• Minimum 1 year of Med Surg/Tele experience required
• First-time travelers accepted
• Required certifications: BLS, NIHSS; ACLS preferred
• Patient ratios on days are 1:4-5 and on nights are 1:6-7, up to 1:8 though not common
• Primarily care for geriatric patients with cardiac, neurological, and general medical diagnoses including CHF, chest pain observation, seizure and stroke observation, COPD, and respiratory, kidney, liver, and GI issues
• Required skills include NG tube placement and management, foley placement and management, chest tube management, Pleurex and other drains, wound care, central line/ports/midline blood draws, and cardiac rhythm interpretation
• Experience titrating drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, heparin, Lasix, and insulin within set parameters required
• EMR system: EPIC
• IV pump: Alaris
• Medication dispensing: Pyxis
• Centralized telemetry monitoring with tele techs and central monitor at nurse's station
• Various patient lift equipment available including ceiling lifts
• May float to other Med Surg units or areas of the hospital where Med Surg patients are located, including ER hold and ICU, but will only take Med Surg patient assignments
• Schedule is created in 6-week increments and released approximately 3 weeks prior to the start of the schedule
• Scrub color: Any solid color, professional; no graphics, logos, denim, or designs

Facility:

This facility is a Level IV Trauma Center with 100 beds, operating a 28-bed telemetry unit with an average daily census of 20-22 patients. The unit is supported by a charge RN with a reduced patient assignment, a Health Unit Coordinator until 11:00 PM, 24/7 respiratory therapy and hospitalist coverage, centralized telemetry monitoring, and OT, PT, and speech therapy during daytime hours. Phlebotomy services are available for peripheral lab draws.
