Opportunity:

RN - PCU

Job Details:

• 12-hour shifts available from 7:00 AM to 7:30 AM or 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• Every other weekend requirement including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
• Typically 2-3 holidays required during winter, otherwise every other holiday
• Can work 36 hours per week
• No on-call or standby requirements
• Self-scheduling with manager balancing, opens 6 weeks in advance
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: Days 1:4-5, Nights 1:5-6 dependent on acuity
• Nurse aide support available: Days 1:9, Nights 1:12
• 28-bed Progressive Care Unit with a neuro focus
• Common diagnoses include strokes, seizures, Guillain-Barré, Myasthenia Gravis, spinal injuries, thrombectomies, TNK/TPA 24 hours post, AMS, and dementia, as well as trauma/ortho injuries including hematomas, bleeds, falls on thinners, and farm and MVA accidents
• Minimum 2 years of MS, PCU, or ICU experience required with experience in setting within the last 1 year
• Must have drip experience; required to titrate drips including Heparin, Nitro, Diltiazem, Amiodarone, 3%, and Insulin
• Tracheostomy and ventilator experience highly preferred; willingness to train on vents required
• RT equipment used includes vents, trachs, CPAP, BiPAP, Vapotherm, and EtCO2
• Central telemetry monitor located in a separate area
• Floating required to sister MS units across 6 different specialties including mixed care, cardiac, general, MS ortho, and heme/onc
• Any solid color scrubs required
• Orientation consists of 1 general shift and 1 shift with a preceptor
• Charting system: Cerner
• Required certifications: BLS (AHA), NIHSS
• Open to first-time travelers

This acute care facility is a Level 2 Trauma Center offering a wide range of specialized medical services. The Progressive Care Unit is a 28-bed neuro-focused unit providing care for complex neurological, trauma, and orthopedic patients. The facility supports a comprehensive team environment with charge nurses, nurse aides, and respiratory therapy staff, and utilizes Cerner as its electronic health records system.
