Description

Job Summary:
Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at a Level 1 Trauma designated healthcare facility located in Macon, Georgia. The position involves providing high-quality nursing care to cardiothoracic, vascular surgical patients, and other medical-surgical cases, with a focus on assessment, patient education, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Job Details:

  • Location: Macon, Georgia
  • Schedule: Nights shift, 12-hour shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week
  • Required Qualifications: Valid nursing license; BLS (Basic Life Support); BCR (Basic Cardiac Rhythm); ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support); NIHSS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale) certification; 2 years of clinical experience in a related setting.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Medical-Surgical certification.
  • Patient Population: Cardiothoracic and vascular surgical patients, pre-operative and post-operative step-down, cardiology, pulmonology, general medical/surgical, pre/post LVAD patients, those with acute or chronic disease and co-morbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, infections, CHF, electrolyte imbalances.
  • Patient Ratios: RN: 1:4-6, LPN: 1:4-6, CNA: 2-3 per shift.
  • Skills Required: Trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucommander, insulin and heparin drips, cardiac monitoring, telemetry interpretation, wound care, post-op monitoring, discharge planning, patient education, IV insertion/care, central line management, use of medical equipment including vital sign monitors, glucometers, bladder scanners, and portable oxygen systems.
  • Support Within Department: CNA assistance with patient care activities, unit secretary coverage from 7 am to 11 pm, charge nurse availability per unit, resource nurses, RT 24/7, hospitalist and intensivist 24/7, telemetry/tech support, and use of EPIC electronic medical record.
  • Orientation: One day of facility and unit orientation, followed by two days of departmental training.
  • Scheduling: Every 6 weeks, including 5-6 weekend shifts; no on-call requirement.
  • Holiday Expectations: Work one shift of major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve/Day, New Years Eve/Day).
  • Additional Notes: Scrub color Navy, free parking available, team-oriented work culture.
