Description

Job Summary:
Progressive Care Unit (PCU) RN opportunity located in Louisville, Kentucky. This position involves providing high-quality, patient-centered care within a dynamic mixed-acuity environment dedicated to complex conditions and trauma. The role requires collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe and efficient patient outcomes.

Job Details:

  • Shift Time: Nights, 12-hour shifts, with a minimum of 36 hours per week
  • Certification and Education Requirements: Basic Life Support (BLS), National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS); at least 2 years of step-down experience; preferred 3 years of step-down experience and at least 6 months of Level I or II trauma experience; experience with blood administration, skeletal traction, drains, JP, chest tube management, wound dressings, wound vac management, wound care, heparin gtt, high flow oxygen, stable bipap, and trach care.
  • Experience: 2 years of step-down or equivalent experience required.
  • Orientation: 24 hours (3 days total) including online training, in-person days, and modules. Orientation includes a 12-hour shift at the end of week one and the start of week two.
  • Schedule: Nights, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM; clock-in available at 6:53 PM; requires attendance at the daily huddle at 7:00 PM.
  • Float: Float to mixed acuity units may be required; CAP preceptor will act as a traditional traveler during floating assignments, including the possibility of floating to similar units.
  • Support within Department: CNA, receptionists, charge nurse, phlebotomy staff, vascular access team, sepsis and rapid response teams, 24/7 hospitalist, specialists, intensivist, unit educator, remote telemetry monitoring.
  • Technology & Equipment: Cerner electronic medical records system, Plum ICU Medical IV Pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Philips monitors, and unit-specific equipment such as sera steady, Arjo lifts, kangaroo pump, and sapphire pump for PCA.
  • Additional Notes: Scrub color is Galaxy Blue; onsite parking is available; the environment emphasizes teamwork, compassionate care, and clinical excellence.
