Description

Job Summary:
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Open Heart Nurse position available in Charlotte, North Carolina. This role involves caring for high-acuity pediatric patients with congenital heart differences, post-surgical care, and device management within a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center that is also a Teaching Hospital. The selected candidate will provide critical nursing support in a specialized unit, adhering to established clinical standards and protocols.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: Nights shifts, 12 hours per shift, minimum of 36 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications: Valid licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN), BLS (Basic Life Support), PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), and NIHSS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale).
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience with fresh open heart post-operative patients, transplant procedures, and familiarity with devices such as Aquadex (renal replacement therapy), Impella, and ECMO. EPIC electronic health record system experience is required.
  • Float: Ability to float to Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and general Pediatric units as needed.
  • Other Responsibilities: Support unit operations with a designated health care technician, unit secretary, and resource nurses. Support provided by 24/7 cardiac, intensivist, and respiratory therapy staff.
  • Technology/Equipment: Experience with EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing systems, and Phillips bedside monitors.
  • Orientation: Two-day departmental orientation.
  • Scheduling: Every other weekend or fewer as needed.
  • Call Requirements: Yes, based on previous scheduling.
  • Holiday Expectations: Work coverage for 75% of holidays, alternating every other holiday.
  • RTO: Subject to manager approval.
  • Other Notes: Traveling professionals will wear navy scrub colors, and free parking is provided. The department emphasizes teamwork, trust, and accountability.
