Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Pediatric Cardiovascular ICU position requiring 2 years of similar pediatric cardiac ICU experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Work in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit of a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital
  • 20-bed unit divided into two mirrored sides with 10 beds each, centralized nurses station with most critical patients placed nearby
  • Care for a high-acuity pediatric population ages 0-18 with congenital heart differences, including pre/post-transplant, post cath lab, and post-surgical cardiac patients
  • Utilizes advanced devices including ventricular assistive devices, ECMO, Impella, dialysis, and Aquadex renal replacement therapy
  • RN to patient ratios vary by acuity: 2:1, 1:1, or 1:2
  • Supported by 1 health care tech per day, dedicated unit secretary every shift, free-floating charge and resource nurses, and 24/7 RT, cardiologist, and intensivist coverage
  • IV/VAT team available; phlebotomy in-house but rarely needed due to central line use
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
  • Floating required to PICU, NICU, and General Pediatrics as needed
  • Rotating 12-hour shifts (0645-1845 and 1845-0645) on a 6-week schedule cycle
  • Weekend rotation of every other weekend or fewer, covering Fri/Sat/Sun
  • On-call and call-back requirements apply
  • Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays, with unit requirement of every other holiday

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or compact) currently in hand
  • Current certifications: BLS, PALS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Cardiac ICU experience in a similar high-acuity facility required
  • Minimum 12 months of core work experience in the specialty area, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Experience with fresh open heart post-op patients and transplant care required
  • Experience with Aquadex renal replacement therapy, Impella, and ECMO devices required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Must be competent or willing to float to PICU as discussed during interview
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

  • Traveler's permanent address must be more than 50 miles from the facility, and local candidates are not accepted
  • Returning employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position
