Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Pediatric Cardiovascular ICU position requiring 2 years of Pediatric Cardiac ICU experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Work in a 20-bed Pediatric Cardiovascular ICU within a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital
  • Unit is split into two 10-bed sides mirroring each other, with a centralized nurses station and the most critical patients placed nearby
  • Care for a high-acuity patient population ages 0-18 with congenital heart differences, including pre- and post-surgical, pre- and post-transplant, s/p cath lab, and patients on ventricular assist devices, ECMO, Impella, dialysis, and Aquadex renal replacement therapy
  • RN to patient ratios vary by acuity, ranging from 2:1 to 1:1 to 1:2
  • Supported by one health care tech per shift for unit secretary duties and nursing support, plus a dedicated unit secretary, free-floating charge nurse and resource nurse, IV/VAT team, and 24/7 RT, cardiologist, and intensivist coverage
  • Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
  • Centralized and bedside patient monitoring with no dedicated telemetry monitoring tech
  • 12-hour night shift schedule (1845-0645) on a 6-week schedule cycle
  • Weekend rotation of every other weekend or fewer as needed (Fri/Sat/Sun)
  • Floating required to PICU, NICU, and General Pediatrics as needed

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or compact) currently in hand
  • Current BLS, PALS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Cardiac ICU experience in a similar high-acuity facility required
  • Minimum 12 months of core work experience in the specialty unit, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Experience with fresh open heart post-op patients and transplant patients required
  • Hands-on experience with Aquadex, Impella, and ECMO required
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Must be able to float to PICU when needed
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • At least one professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

  • Provide direct nursing care to critically ill pediatric cardiac patients across a wide range of acuity levels and interventions
  • Participate in facility orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Unit culture emphasizes teamwork, trust, and accountability
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Free parking available
  • On-call requirements may apply based on prior scheduling history
  • Holiday coverage required for approximately 75% of holidays, with a unit requirement of every other holiday
  • RTO requests subject to manager approval
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Must reside at least 50 miles outside the home unit to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted
  • Returning travelers must have been separated from the health system for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
