Description
Job Summary:
Surgical Technician (ORT) for a facility in a healthcare setting. This role involves supporting surgical teams during operative procedures by maintaining sterile fields, preparing operating rooms and instruments, and assisting surgical staff. The position reports directly to Surgical Services management and requires active participation in safety protocols to ensure optimal surgical outcomes.
Job Details:
- Maintains accountability for ensuring the operating room and all surgical items meet sterilization criteria.
- Maintains the sterile field and ensures a safe environment.
- Recognizes and addresses sharps and fire safety processes.
- Prepares the operating room and instruments for the surgical procedure.
- May assist with sterile processing.
- Assists the surgeon(s) during the procedure while staying within the Operating Room Technician (ORT) scope of practice.
- Can identify emergency situations and exercises judgment when implementing procedures to respond to emergencies.
- Assists with room turnover, cleaning, and preparation for the next procedure upon completion of the procedure.
- Schedule: Day shift, 12-hour days with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
- Certifications & Licensure: CO License (DORA) required; NBSTSA Certified Surgical Technologist or Certified Surgical Technologist preferred.
- Education: Completion of an accredited Operating Room Technician (ORT) program or graduation from a non-accredited surgical tech program within six months, or two years of scrub tech experience in hospital or military surgical services within the last three years.
- Required Skills & Experience: Demonstrates knowledge of sterile field management, environmental safety, sharps safety, fire safety, and surgical services; responds appropriately in emergency situations; supports surgical team operations; possesses sterile processing knowledge, and sterilization process understanding; has life support experience related to surgical care; can operate within supervision scope in surgical services.
