Job Summary
The Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) role is based in the healthcare facility's sterile processing department. This position involves ensuring the proper sterilization, maintenance, and distribution of surgical instruments and supplies to support patient care. The technician will follow established protocols and regulatory standards to maintain a safe and efficient sterile environment.

- Position Description: Practices and PoliciesConsistently complies with healthcare facility policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Regulatory RequirementsCompletes and maintains all mandatory licensing, certification, and training within designated timeframes. Patient/Customer SatisfactionAdheres to standards for patient satisfaction, including communication and service quality. CommunicationReports equipment issues, maintains shift communication logs, and facilitates proper handling of biologicals and loads. Department competencyCompletes initial and ongoing competency assessments, demonstrating proficiency in sterile processing. DocumentationTracks sterilizer loads, documents test results, and ensures accurate labeling of instruments and implants. Instrument processingDisassembles, inspects, disinfects, and reassembles surgical instruments, ensuring cleanliness and proper packaging. Properly operates sterilizers, ultrasonic cleaners, and related equipment, assisting users when needed. Professional developmentSets annual goals, maintains performance records, and pursues growth opportunities. SuppliesRestocks carts, prepares case carts, and manages inventory. Time and resource managementUtilizes resources efficiently, anticipates surgical needs, and handles additional assignments flexibly.
- Required Qualifications: Minimum of three years in an acute care hospital sterile processing, surgery department, or completion of a sterile processing/central supply technician program; Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification; minimum high school education; CA certifications and licensure. Experience in surgical instrumentation, sterile techniques, hospital supplies, and sterilization equipment is preferred.
- Schedule: Night shift, 8-hour shifts, working every other weekend, with a total of 40 hours per week.
- Additional Information: The role involves disassembling, inspecting, cleaning, sterilizing, and preparing surgical instruments and equipment, as well as maintaining documentation for sterilizer loads and biological testing. The candidate will assist in supply management and operational activities while ensuring compliance with safety standards.
