Job Summary
Operating Room Open Heart Milwaukee, WI. The position supports cardiovascular and thoracic surgical procedures in a fast-paced operating room environment. Responsibilities may include circulating, medication administration, surgical assistance, or anesthesia technology support, depending on the assigned role.
Job Details
- Schedule: Rotating 8-hour shifts with a minimum of 40 hours per week. Registered nurse start times range from 5:00 a.m. to 6:30 a.m.; operating room technicians and surgical assistants start between 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m.; anesthesia technicians start at 5:30 a.m.
- Required Qualifications:
- Registered nurses, operating room technicians, and surgical assistants: 2 years of relevant experience and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Anesthesia technicians: 1 year of relevant experience and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Operating room technicians and surgical assistants: Graduation from an accredited school.
- Preferred Qualifications: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification for operating room technicians and Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) certification for surgical assistants.
- Additional Information:
- Strong cardiovascular operating room experience across cardiovascular and thoracic specialties, including Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) procedures, Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), valve replacements, robotic thoracic procedures, generator exchanges, lead extractions, heart transplants, and femoral-popliteal bypass procedures.
- Ability to work independently with minimal guidance in a fast-paced environment.
- Anesthesia technicians must be able to operate blood gas, Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE), and ultrasound equipment.
- Registered nurses, operating room technicians, and surgical assistants will use the electronic charting system; charting system experience is not required for anesthesia technicians.
- Registered nurses, operating room technicians, and surgical assistants may be assigned to circulating or medication administration duties. Anesthesia technicians may rotate among cardiovascular operating room, main operating room, and cardiac catheterization laboratory areas.
- Weekend coverage is on-call only, including one 24-hour weekend call rotation per month from Saturday at 7:00 a.m. through Sunday at 7:00 a.m. End-of-shift call may occur up to once per week, with a 30-minute response time. Holiday coverage is on-call only as needed.
- A two-week orientation is provided.
