Registered Nurse – ICU (Critical Care Float Pool)
Location
Newport News, VA
Schedule / Job Type
Contract | Nights (3x12 Hours, 19:00–07:00) | Onsite | Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday); holiday coverage may be required
Key Responsibilities
- Float across multiple Critical Care Units including Surgical ICU, Medical ICU, Cardiac Care Unit, and Oncology ICU as needed
- Provide direct nursing care to critically ill patients including trauma, surgical complications, neurological, cardiac, and oncology populations
- Manage patients requiring increased levels of care such as DKA, ETOH withdrawal, and chemo inductions
- Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes using EPIC electronic health records
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary care teams to deliver safe, high-quality critical care
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license valid in Virginia or a compact license with proof provided at time of submittal
- Minimum 2 years of ICU/critical care experience, with specialty experience within the last year
- ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications through the American Heart Association (AHA)
- EPIC electronic health records experience
- NIH stroke scale certification and stroke education completed
- Valid Social Security Number required at time of submittal
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience in Surgical ICU caring for trauma, neuro, or open-heart surgery patients
- Background in oncology critical care or cardiac monitoring
- Flexible scheduling availability with ability to minimize time-off requests during assignment
