Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in a Neuro ICU setting within a comprehensive stroke center, managing a patient population that includes ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes (SAH), subdural hematomas, craniotomies, carotid stents and endarterectomies, aneurysm coiling and clipping, seizures, and myasthenia gravis
- Manage and monitor external ventricular drains (EVDs), lumbar drains, Camino ICP monitoring, LICOX, NICOM, and Arctic Sun equipment
- Administer continuous IV sedation, blood products, and manage ventilated patients
- Perform CVA and acute stroke management, interpret and manage dysrhythmias, and maintain central line care
- Maintain patient ratios of 2:1, with the ability to flex to 3:1 during high census periods
- Float within or near the facility as needed and work every other weekend per unit requirements
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience specifically in a Neuro ICU setting — general ICU experience alone does not meet this requirement
- Strong neuro critical care background with demonstrated experience managing stroke patients
- Proficiency in ventilator management, IV starts, ICP monitoring, EVD and lumbar drain management, and post-neurosurgery care
- Experience with isolation precautions and proper use of PPE
- Active certifications: ACLS, BCLS, and NIH Stroke Scale
- Active NC RN license or valid compact nursing license
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience with arterial line management
- Familiarity with unit systems including Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR communication framework
