Contract | Nights | 3x12-Hour Shifts (18:45–07:15) | 36 Hours/Week | Onsite
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to a complex Neuro ICU patient population including strokes (ischemic, hemorrhagic, SAH), craniotomies, carotid procedures, aneurysm coiling/clipping, seizures, and myasthenia gravis
- Manage and monitor external ventricular drains (EVDs), lumbar drains, and ICP monitoring devices including Camino, LICOX, and Arctic Sun
- Perform ventilator management and care of ventilated patients, including continuous IV sedation and blood product administration
- Interpret and manage dysrhythmias; provide central line care and management
- Apply CVA/acute stroke management protocols within a comprehensive stroke center setting
- Float within or near the facility per unit needs; work every other weekend
Required Qualifications
- Active NC RN license or valid Compact RN license
- Minimum 2 years of Neuro ICU experience required — general ICU experience alone does not qualify
- First-time travelers will not be accepted; prior travel nursing experience required
- Required Certifications: ACLS, BCLS, and NIH Stroke Scale certification
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Proficiency with vents, IV starts, ICP monitoring, EVDs, lumbar drains, isolation precautions, and PPE
- Local candidates are welcome to apply (rate difference may apply for candidates within 50 miles of the facility)
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Arterial line management experience
- Familiarity with specialty equipment including NICOM, LICOX, and Arctic Sun
- Experience charting in Epic and working with Pyxis medication dispensing systems
