Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care on a Surgical Transplant PCU/Stepdown unit with patient ratios of 1:4–5 (occasionally 1:6 with Med/Surg overflow); travelers should be prepared to manage ratios of 1:5 or 1:6
• Perform and assist with procedures including wound/drain care, frequent lab draws from central lines, blood product transfusions, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), and use of two-point soft physical restraints
• Monitor and manage patients on Heparin drips, PCAs, epidurals, anti-arrhythmic drips, and cardiac arrhythmias; read and interpret telemetry strips
• Operate and utilize unit equipment including bladder scanners, EKG machines, AccuVein, Hoyer/Sara Steady/Sit-to-Stand lifts, Virtual Sitter Cameras, and Ultrasound Guided PIV machines; document using Meditech EMR
• Apply strong infection prevention practices when caring for immunocompromised patient populations, including solid organ transplant recipients
• Identify and respond to decompensating patients (e.g., sepsis) using critical thinking skills in a fast-paced environment

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of acute care hospital Stepdown/PCU experience
• Active RN license valid in the state of Colorado (or compact eligibility)
• BLS certification (required)
• ACLS certification (required)

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience with solid organ transplant patients (kidney, liver, or pancreas)
• Experience with higher oxygen delivery/respiratory support modalities such as Vapotherm, BiPAP, or CPAP
• Knowledge of chest tube management, tracheostomy care, NG/Dobhoff placement and management, and DKA/insulin drip management
• Experience with NICOM (non-invasive cardiac monitoring) and plasmapheresis support
