Registered Nurse (RN) – Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU)

Contract | Night Shift | 12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM | Weekend and holiday requirements apply

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a 13-bed SICU setting, managing complex diagnoses including post-surgical patients, open abdomens, multi-system trauma, and endovascular cases
• Maintain nurse-to-patient ratios of typically 1:2, with potential for 1:1 or 1:3 depending on acuity
• Titrate drips including pressors, sedation, paralytics, and insulin as ordered
• Read and interpret cardiac monitor strips independently; monitor techs are available on the unit
• Collaborate with intensivists, respiratory therapy (available 24/7), charge nurses, and house supervisors to ensure continuous, high-quality patient care
• Float to lower levels of care as needed, including Stepdown (up to 3 patients) or general medical units (5–6 patients)

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
• BLS certification required
• ACLS certification required
• Minimum ICU-level nursing experience required
• Level I trauma experience required
• Must be able to pass a drug screen; facility maintains a drug-free campus policy
• Must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for standard contract rates

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience titrating vasopressors, sedation, paralytics, and insulin drips in a critical care environment
• Familiarity with ventilator management and respiratory equipment including CPAP and BiPAP
• Experience with EPIC electronic health records
• Prior travel nursing experience in a high-acuity ICU setting
