Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in a high-acuity ICU setting with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2 or 1:1, covering Surgical ICU (Trauma/Neuro/Surgery) and Medical Cardiac ICU populations
- Titrate a broad range of vasoactive, sedation, and analgesic drips including propofol, levophed, vasopressin, heparin, insulin, and others per physician orders
- Independently interpret cardiac monitor strips using GE monitoring equipment — no monitor technicians are assigned to the unit
- Operate and monitor respiratory therapy equipment including Draeger, Hamilton, Puritan Bennett 840, V60 BiPAP, and Airvo ventilators in collaboration with 24/7 on-site RT staff
- Complete the UNA Dysrhythmia Exam (maximum 2 attempts) within 24–48 hours prior to acceptance, and pass a Sim Lab skills validation on Day 1 of orientation
- Float between sister ICU units (Surgical ICU, Medical Cardiac ICU, and overflow ICU) as needed, and float to telemetry at a 1:3 or 1:4 ratio when required
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license with a minimum of 3 years of recent ICU experience — no exceptions; at least 2 of those years must be in an ICU setting
- Experience must include either neuro or cardiovascular (CV) ICU patient populations
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Demonstrated ability to titrate vasoactive and sedation drips independently
- Ability to independently interpret cardiac rhythm strips
- Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; candidates who have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN at any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year are not eligible
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior experience in a Level 1 Trauma Center or dedicated neuro ICU environment
- Experience in a similarly sized high-acuity ICU (32+ beds)
- Familiarity with advanced cardiac support devices such as IABP, Impella, ECMO, or Tandem Heart
- Experience with CRRT, CVICU patient populations, or post-cardiac surgery recovery (CABG, TAVR, valve procedures)
