Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a 41-bed progressive care trauma/telemetry unit primarily serving adult patients recovering from traumatic injuries, including those related to gunshot wounds, penetrating injuries, assaults, motor vehicle crashes, and falls
- Monitor and manage hemodynamically stable patients, with telemetry monitoring capabilities available for up to 14 patients
- Maintain a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4, flexing up to 1:5 as needed based on census
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team including IV Teams, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Pharmacy, Rapid Response Teams, Social Services, and more
- Complete pre-assignment testing and required modules within 48 hours of receiving login credentials
- Float to other units and/or campuses as requested due to census needs, limited to units for which competencies have been demonstrated and documented
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
- AHA ACLS certification required
- BLS/BCLS certification required
- NIH Stroke Scale certification required
- Telemetry (TELE) competency required
- Minimum 1 year of recent experience in a PCU/progressive care setting (2+ years required for first-time travelers)
- Minimum 1 year of EPIC EMR experience required
- Medication test required prior to assignment
- Must complete orientation (held every Monday) and annual compliance requirements
- Must live at least 50 miles from the contracted campus to be eligible (night shift, Progressive Care specialty); candidates between 50–99.9 miles may be subject to a bill rate reduction
- Weekend commitment of 6 shifts per every 6-week schedule
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience caring for surgical trauma patients in an acute or progressive care environment
- Familiarity with telemetry monitoring systems and cardiac rhythm interpretation
- Prior travel nursing experience in a PCU or stepdown setting
