Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Travel)

Contract | 13 Weeks | Days (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM) | Expected 36 hours/week | Every other weekend required | No call requirements

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care on an 18-bed Medical Surgical unit serving an adult and geriatric population at a 1:6 patient ratio
• Manage common diagnoses including COPD exacerbation, GI bleed, diabetic complications, wound care, pancreatitis, sickle cell crisis, sepsis, infection, falls, weakness, and end-of-life/hospice care
• Operate unit equipment including Baxter IV pumps, SCD machines, Kangaroo feeding pumps, and PCA pumps with demonstrated IV competency
• Document accurately using the Cerner EHR system
• Float as needed to surgical, neuro, and intermediate units (accepting med/surg level patients)
• Function as a strong patient advocate and collaborative team member on a high-acuity, fast-paced floor

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license in North Carolina or a Compact state license
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
• Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience
• Proficiency with Cerner EHR and demonstrated IV competency
• Associate or Bachelor's degree in Nursing required
• Must reside at least 60 miles from the facility to be eligible for travel rates

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Charge nurse experience
• Experience with high-acuity med/surg patient populations including wound care and end-of-life care
• Demonstrated ability to thrive in a busy, team-oriented environment
