Job Summary:
The Cat Scan Technologist performs CT procedures and related imaging techniques, producing sectional and 3D images for diagnostic interpretation. The technologist also assists with interventional and therapeutic procedures as needed.
Essential Job Functions (in order of importance):
Perform complex CT procedures with accuracy and precision.
Use professional judgment when reviewing and obtaining clinical history, ensuring proper documentation and scanning into PACS.
Prepare, screen, and verify the accuracy of contrast questionnaires with patients and/or family members; scan into EPIC.
Identify and/or administer contrast media for CT exams as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
Review the patient prescription to confirm exam appropriateness; communicate with Radiologists and Referring Physicians for clarification or additional information when needed.
Call physicians to clarify prescriptions in accordance with established CT protocols.
Verify insurance authorization for exam scripts and send modification forms to Finance for re-verification.
Obtain outside studies (CDs) and schedule them in EPIC so images and reports are available in PACS for comparison.
Provide exam copies to patients, requesting physicians, and/or family members as needed.
Evaluate radiographs in PACS to ensure proper identification and diagnostic quality.
Use appropriate techniques to collect relevant information from medical records, caregivers, and healthcare providers to prepare safe and accurate scan protocols.
Ensure the patient is properly prepared for the procedure.
Prepare the patient for scanning, including shielding and immobilization devices.
Determine appropriate contrast type and dosage.
Provide clear explanations and instructions at a level appropriate to the patient’s understanding; document concerns or questions.
Perform venipuncture, confirm IV patency, and maintain IV access per guidelines.
Monitor patients for any adverse reactions during procedures.
Fulfill scheduled shifts, including holidays and weekends.
Work overtime as needed to maintain high-quality patient care.
Participate in on-call assignments as per Radiology Department policy.
Adhere to policies regarding Employee ID, Behavior Standards, Attendance, and Punctuality.
Meet physical requirements: lift at least 25 lbs., push/pull 50 lbs., and stand for at least 6 hours per day.
Identify and address the specific needs of diverse patient populations (age, culture, language, sensory impairments, etc.).
Communicate effectively with patients and caregivers at appropriate developmental and literacy levels.
Follow all Medical Center Organizational Competencies and Standards of Behavior.
Additional Position Details:
Shift: 11:00 PM – 7:30 AM
Wednesday–Sunday or Tuesday–Saturday
Holidays: Required
On-Call: None
Experience:
Minimum 2 years CT experience required (5 years preferred)
Must be able to work in a fast-paced ED environment and maintain workflow
Must be willing to work in dual modalities (CT & X-Ray)
