Registered Nurse (RN) – Interim Unit Manager (NICU)

Travel Leadership Contract | 13 Weeks
5x8 Day Shift | 40 Hours Weekly
Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Interim Nurse Manager to lead a high-volume Level III NICU. This role carries 24-hour accountability for the unit and requires strong leadership presence, change management experience, and neonatal critical care expertise.
This is a hands-on leadership position supporting clinical operations, mentoring leaders, and driving stability within a unionized nursing environment.

Schedule
- 5x8 Hour Day Shift
- 40-hour workweek
- Exempt leadership position
- 13-week assignment
- On-call as needed
Department Overview
- Level III NICU
- 42-bed unit
- 5,200 deliveries annually
- Neonatal population: 22-week to ~46-week gestation
- Drips administered include epinephrine, norepinephrine, dopamine
- EPIC EMR
Required Experience
- Previous Interim Leadership experience (minimum 1 completed assignment; 2 preferred)
- Level III or IV NICU experience
- Experience mentoring and developing leaders
- Experience navigating and leading through departmental change
- EPIC experience required
- Comfortable leading in a unionized nursing environment
Required Certifications
- Active Wisconsin RN license
- BLS
- ACLS
- NRP
Leadership Expectations
- 24-hour accountability for NICU operations
- Oversight of patient safety, quality, and staffing
- Partnering with interdisciplinary leadership
- Supporting staff engagement and resiliency
- Driving operational improvements during transition
Important Notes
- Time off prior to late April must be limited to support departmental coverage
- Travel home is allowed but must be less frequent than every weekend
- One supervisory reference required at submission
- Skills checklist must be completed within one year
- COVID and flu vaccination required
