Surgical Technician – Neuro/ENT (Traveler)
Location: Milwaukee, WI
Facility Overview:
- Level III Trauma Center
- Level III NICU
- Magnet Designated Facility
- Primary Stroke Center
- 938-bed hospital
- 21 Operating Rooms
Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Surgical Technician specializing in Neuro/ENT to join a fast-paced operating room team. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in complex neuro procedures and demonstrate the ability to support high-acuity surgical cases independently.
Key Requirements:
- Minimum 2+ years of Surgical Technician experience in Neuro specialty
- Strong experience in:
- Craniotomy (Crani)
- External Ventricular Drains (EVDs) – setup required
- Spine procedures
- First-time travelers not recommended (subject to supervisor approval)
- BLS certification required
Patient Population & Case Types:
- Primary focus: Neuro/ENT cases
- Additional exposure may include:
- Orthopedic
- General (Breast/Plastics, Vascular, Laparoscopic)
- Oncology
- Genitourinary (GU)
- Gynecology (GYN)
- Robotic procedures (only for highly experienced candidates)
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain sterile field for surgical procedures
- Assist surgeons during complex neuro and ENT surgeries
- Set up and manage specialized equipment including EVD systems
- Anticipate surgical team needs and ensure efficient workflow
- Maintain patient safety and adhere to sterile techniques
Technology & Equipment:
- EMR: EPIC
- Equipment: Alaris, Pyxis
Support Structure:
- Charge Nurses
- Team Leads
- Supervisors
Work Environment:
- Cross-training across all Main OR specialties and Urology center
- No floating to other hospitals
Orientation:
- 1 to 1.5 weeks (based on team and shift requirements)
Scheduling & Shifts:
- Shift: 8-hour Day Shift (40 hours/week)
- Shift Time: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
- Variable start times may apply (5:30 AM – 7:00 AM depending on assignment)
On-Call Requirements:
- 30-minute response time required
- Call Structure:
- B/C call slots:
- 7:30 PM – 10:30 PM
- 10:30 PM – 7:00 AM
- Assigned:
- 8–9 B slots
- 2–3 C slots per 8-week schedule
- B/C call slots:
- Weekend Call:
- 1–2 weekends every 8 weeks
Holiday Requirements:
- Varies by department needs
- Option for holiday pay or unpaid time off (subject to approval)
Additional Information:
- Scrubs: Provided by hospital
- Scrub caps allowed (must be covered with surgical bouffant)
- Parking: Free
- Day shift: Detached lot (2 blocks away)
- PM shift: On-site parking
- On-site amenities: Starbucks & cafeteria
- No call rooms available
