Overview

We are seeking a skilled and adaptable Registered Nurse (RN) to join the Inpatient Float Pool – Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at UNC Medical Center. In this role, you will deliver high-quality patient care across multiple progressive care units, supporting a wide range of patient populations and clinical needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation)
• Deliver patient-centered care for individuals with complex medical conditions
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure continuity and quality of care
• Educate patients and families based on individual needs and readiness to learn
• Monitor, document, and communicate patient progress and outcomes
• Utilize hospital policies, procedures, and best practices in all aspects of care
• Support safe, efficient, and cost-effective care delivery

Float Pool Details

• Float across multiple PCU/Stepdown units, including:
  • Surgical, Neuro, Medicine, Cardiac, Cardiovascular, and Burn Center
• Typical patient ratios:
  • PCU: 1:3 (up to 1:4)
  • Acute care (as needed): up to 1:5

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license in North Carolina
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA or ARC)
• Minimum 2 year of nursing experience
• Nursing Diploma, ADN, or ASN from an accredited program

Preferred Qualifications

• BSN or MSN
• Experience in Progressive Care / Stepdown units

Additional Requirements

• Certifications: ACLS and NIHSS required
• Schedule includes:
  • Every other weekend (EOW)
  • Every other holiday (EOH)
• No on-call requirement
