Description

Position Overview

  • Role: RN – PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit)
  • Facility: Aurora BayCare Medical Center
  • Location: Green Bay
  • Shift: 8-hour Evening (40 hours/week)
  • Contract Type: Travel
  • Note: Will not accept candidates who were previously staff at this facility

Facility Highlights

  • 167-bed hospital
  • Level II Trauma Center
  • Level III NICU and Maternity
  • Primary Stroke Center

Unit Structure (PACU)

Two PACU areas in the same building:

  • Main PACU (2nd floor):
    • 33 pre/post rooms
    • 10 Phase I bays
  • East PACU (1st floor):
    • 33 pre/post rooms
    • 17 Phase I bays
  • Average census: 60–80 patients per day combined
  • Floating: Required between Main and East PACU

Patient Population and Case Types

  • Adults and Pediatrics
  • Inpatient, Outpatient, Observation

Common cases include:

  • General, GI, GYN, Urology
  • Orthopedic, Spine, Neurosurgery
  • Cardiothoracic (no open heart cases)
  • ENT, Ophthalmology
  • Post-cath, IR, Neuro IR, Bronchoscopy
  • Bariatrics and Robotic surgeries

Patient Ratios

  • Pre-op: 1:3
  • Phase I: 1:2
  • Phase II: 1:3

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years PACU experience (Phase I and Phase II)
  • First-time travelers considered only with strong PACU background

Preferred experience:

  • Post-cath recovery
  • Interventional Radiology / Neuro IR
  • Bronchoscopy recovery

Hard Stop Skills (Must Have)

  • Arterial lines
  • TR Band management
  • Chest tubes
  • Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI)
  • Experience with Epic

Certifications Required (RN)

  • BLS (AHA)
  • ACLS (AHA)
  • PALS
  • CAPA or CPAN (at least one required)

Core Responsibilities

  • Phase I and Phase II recovery
  • Cardiac rhythm interpretation
  • Management of cardiac drips
  • Discharge education
  • Occasional airway or intubation support

Support and Work Environment

  • Charge RN and management support
  • CNA/LPN assistance
  • 24/7 hospitalist, respiratory therapy, anesthesia
  • Team-based approach across roles

Systems and Equipment

  • EMR: Epic (required)
  • IV Pumps: Alaris
  • Medication system: Pyxis

Scheduling Details

  • Monday to Friday schedule
  • No weekends
  • No call
  • No holidays
  • Maximum 4 days RTO
