Job Title: Interventional Radiology Tech
Location: Charlotte, NC
Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift Details: 12hr Day Shift (36 hours/week) – Friday, Saturday, Sunday | 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM | On-call & Holiday required
Job Summary:
The Interventional Radiology (IR) Technologist assists physicians with minimally invasive, image-guided procedures. This role includes patient care, maintaining sterile technique, operating imaging equipment, and supporting procedures across inpatient and outpatient settings.
Facility Overview:
- 373 total licensed beds (344 Acute & 29 Inpatient Rehab)
- ED: 30 beds | ICU: 46 beds | PCU: 40 beds | Observation: 70 beds
- 14 Operating Rooms
- No trauma designation
- TJC Stroke Accredited
- Full imaging services including X-ray, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, and IR
- Radiology Nursing support available
- Radius Rule: Must live 50+ miles from facility
Department Overview:
- Average inpatient census: ~400
- Minimum experience: 1 year
- First-time travelers accepted
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with interventional radiology procedures
- Maintain sterile field and ensure patient safety
- Prepare and monitor patients before, during, and after procedures
- Operate imaging and monitoring equipment
- Rotate between scrubbing, circulating, and documentation roles
- Collaborate with radiologists and nursing staff
- Document procedures accurately in EMR
Patient Population & Procedures:
Patient Types: ED, Inpatient, Observation, Outpatient
Common Procedures:
- Embolizations (GI bleed, uterine artery, prostate, liver chemo)
- Port insertion/removal
- Nephrostomy tube placement
- IVC filter placement/retrieval
- Biliary stent placement/exchange
- Angioplasty & vascular stents
- G/J tube procedures
- PICC, perm cath, Hickman, and other line insertions
- Transjugular liver biopsy
- Fistulagram & declot
- Venogram, angiogram, CO₂ angiogram
- Pleurex catheter placement
- Sheath removal (arterial/venous)
Required Qualifications:
- ARRT (R) – Required
- BLS – Required
- VI Certification – Preferred
- Minimum 1 year of experience
Skills Required:
- Knowledge of embolization, GI bleeds, nephrostomy tubes, IVC filters
- Ability to scrub, circulate, and document
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work independently when needed
Department Support:
- 3 techs scheduled daily (rotating roles)
- Nurse support available
- Radiologist on-site
- Overnight shifts may require working independently
Technology & Equipment:
- EMR: EPIC
- PACS: Philips iSite
- Monitoring: Philips system
Orientation:
- 1 day administrative onboarding
- 2 days to 1 week departmental orientation
