Description
Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Room (ER)
Location: Walnut Creek, California (John Muir Medical Center – Walnut Creek)
Client: John Muir Health
Unit: Emergency Department (Level II Trauma Center)
Assignment Duration: 13 Weeks (Potential for extension)
Schedule: 36 hours/week | 12-hour rotating shifts (Evening/Night)
Shift Times: Rotating (1 PM–1 AM, 3 PM–3 AM, 5 PM–5 AM, 7 PM–7 AM)
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN) to join a high-acuity, fast-paced Level II Trauma Center. This role requires strong clinical judgment, adaptability, and the ability to manage a high patient volume while delivering exceptional patient-centered care.
The ER RN will provide comprehensive emergency nursing care, including triage, critical interventions, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Emergency Clinical Care
- Perform rapid triage and prioritize care for high-volume emergency patients (190–200 daily census)
- Deliver critical care for a wide range of conditions including trauma, stroke, STEMI, and acute medical emergencies
- Initiate IV access, administer medications, and perform emergency interventions
- Assist with stabilization and management of critically ill patients
Patient Monitoring & Documentation
- Continuously assess, monitor, and document patient conditions using Epic EMR
- Evaluate response to treatment and adjust care plans accordingly
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with physicians, respiratory therapists, and interdisciplinary teams
- Communicate effectively with patients and families, ensuring a high level of service and satisfaction
Operational Excellence
- Maintain efficiency in a fast-paced, high-turnover environment
- Participate in quality and safety initiatives
- Support teamwork and a collaborative unit culture
Required Qualifications
Experience
- Minimum 2+ years of recent Emergency Room experience
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Experience in high-volume, fast-paced ER settings
- Epic EMR experience (must be clearly listed in work history)
Licensure & Certifications
- Active California RN License
- BLS (AHA)
- ACLS (AHA)
- PALS (AHA) or ENPC
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
Preferred Qualifications
- CEN (Certified Emergency Nurse)
- TNCC certification
- 3–5 years of ER experience
- Trauma and pediatric experience

- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4

- Must be flexible to work all assigned rotating shifts
- Every other weekend required
