Registered Nurse (RN) – Intensive Care Unit (ICU) | Contract Position

Job Type: Contract
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour Days or Nights
Schedule: 72 hours every two weeks (may vary based on facility needs)

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated ICU Registered Nurse (RN) to provide high-quality, critical care to patients in an intensive care setting. The RN will manage complex patient conditions, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, and ensure safe, effective, and compassionate care delivery.

Unit Overview

• 9-bed Intensive Care Unit
• Standard nurse-to-patient ratio: 2:1 (adjusted to 1:1 for high-acuity cases)
• Potential for med/surg overflow assignments with ratios up to 3–4 patients per nurse
• Minimum of three nurses scheduled per shift
• Primarily adult patient population, with occasional stable pediatric patients
• Unstable pediatric cases are transferred to higher levels of care

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct, high-acuity nursing care to critically ill patients
• Perform continuous monitoring, assessment, and documentation of patient status
• Administer medications, treatments, and interventions in accordance with protocols
• Respond rapidly to changes in patient condition and emergencies
• Collaborate with physicians and healthcare teams to optimize patient outcomes
• Support patient and family education regarding care plans and recovery
• Assist in other departments as needed (without primary patient assignment when floating)
• Assume charge nurse responsibilities when assigned

Requirements

• Active Hawaii Registered Nurse (RN) license (required prior to start)
• Minimum of 2 years recent ICU/critical care experience
• Pediatric experience required
• Ability to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays
• Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking skills

Certifications (Required)

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Additional Information

• Experience with Epic Systems (EPIC) is preferred
