Description
Float Pool RN (Nights) – Kealakekua, HI
Contract Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift: Nights | 12-Hour Shifts (72 Hours Every Two Weeks)
Urgency: Normal
Positions Available: 2
Job Summary:
Seeking two highly versatile Float Pool RNs for their night shift team. This role is designed for a clinician who thrives on variety and can maintain high standards of care across different acuity levels. You will primarily float between two Med/Surg/Telemetry units, but you must also be prepared to manage Med/Surg overflow in the ICU and Emergency Department. This position requires a strong clinical foundation in adult care, with the added ability to support pediatric Med/Surg patients as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Dynamic Floating: Transition seamlessly between Med/Surg and Telemetry units based on daily hospital census and acuity needs.
- Overflow Support: Provide specialized Med/Surg level care to patients boarding in the ICU or ED, ensuring continuity of care during high-census periods.
- Cardiac Monitoring: Monitor and interpret telemetry rhythms for patients with cardiovascular comorbidities, identifying and escalating changes in cardiac status.
- Pediatric Care: Provide age-appropriate nursing interventions for pediatric patients admitted to the Med/Surg overflow areas.
- Documentation: Utilize Epic EMR for all charting, medication administration, and care planning.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in Med/Surg or Telemetry.
- Technical Skills: Must have previous Epic experience.
- Licensure: Active Hawaii (HI) State RN License (Must be currently active at time of submission).
- Certifications: * Current AHA BLS/BCLS is required.
- ACLS and PALS are highly recommended given the Telemetry and Pediatric sub-specialties.
Unit & Facility Details
- Address: Kealakekua, HI 96750.
- Bed Size: 50–149 beds (Community Hospital setting).
- Trauma Level: N/A.
- Shift Note: 12-hour night shifts; schedule follows a 72-hour bi-weekly pay period.
Clinical Spotlight: The Multi-Acuity Float Role
Working in the Float Pool at a community hospital requires a high degree of "clinical agility." You may start your shift on a standard Med/Surg floor managing post-operative recovery and end it in the ED managing a telemetry patient awaiting a bed. Your ability to adapt to different unit workflows while maintaining a strict focus on Patient Safety Goals—such as medication reconciliation and fall prevention—is the hallmark of a successful float nurse.
Financial & Logistics Notes
- Location: Kealakekua is located on the scenic Kona Coast of the Big Island. The hospital is situated on a lush hillside with incredible views, though the pace inside remains fast.
- References: Reference checks for this facility must be sent via email only. Do not call for references.
- Holiday Coverage: Required if the holiday falls within the 13-week contract period.
