Description

🏥 Facility Snapshot

  • 700+ bed hospital → large, high-volume system
  • Primary Stroke Center
  • Chest pain accredited
  • ICU size: 17 beds
  • Patient ratio: 1:2

👉 Big hospital = more resources, but also busier and more system-driven

🔑 Requirements

  • 1.5+ years ICU experience
  • First-time travelers accepted, BUT:
    • Must have 2 years perm acute care RN experience
  • Certifications:
    • BLS
    • ACLS
    • NIHSS
  • Must pass EKG exam before start (important screen point)

👩‍⚕️ Patient Population

  • Adult medical + surgical ICU
  • Expect:
    • Stroke patients
    • Cardiac cases
    • General critical illness

Core skills:

  • Vent management
  • IV med titration
  • Vasoactive drips
  • Total care of critically ill patients

👉 This is a true general ICU, not specialized

⚙️ Support & Staffing

  • CNA: inconsistent (may or may not have help)
  • Charge nurse: may take patients
  • RT: 24/7
  • Hospitalist: 24/7
  • PICC team available

👉 Translation:

  • You’ll have clinical support, but floor help (CNAs) isn’t reliable

🔄 FLOATING (Major Consideration)

  • Required to float to:
    • CCU
    • Stepdown
    • Med-Surg (frequently)

👉 This is one of the biggest flags:

  • You are not staying ICU-only
  • Must be comfortable taking lower acuity assignments

⏰ Scheduling (Unusual Pattern)

  • Alternating weeks:
    • 4 shifts one week
    • 3 shifts next week
  • Possible patterns:
    • 2 on / 2 off
    • 5 on / 5 off
  • Every other weekend
  • No call

👉 That 5 on / 5 off pattern can be great—or exhausting depending on preference

đź“‹ Time Off Rules

  • Only 1 weekend RTO per contract
  • Other RTO requires manager approval
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays

đź’» Systems

  • EMR: Meditech Expanse
  • Pumps: Alaris
  • Meds: Pyxis
