Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) – Pediatric Outpatient Clinic
 

Location

Northern Navajo Medical Center (NNMC)
US Hwy 491 North, Shiprock, NM 87420

May also float to:

  • Four Corners Regional Health Center (FCRHC)
  • Dzilth-Na-O-Dith-Hle Health Center (DZHC)

Job Type

Contract (6-month base period + up to 4 extension periods of 6 months each)
 

Work Schedule

  • Monday to Friday
  • 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (8.5-hour day shift)
  • Approx. 21–22 shifts per month
  • No weekends, no holidays
  • May be assigned specific tours by Supervisory Clinical Nurse (SCN)

Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to provide comprehensive pediatric outpatient care at the Northern Navajo Medical Center. The RN will deliver direct patient care to children from infancy through adolescence, support preventive care, manage chronic conditions, and collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure high-quality, culturally sensitive care.
 

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care

  • Perform pediatric patient assessments, physical exams, and vital sign monitoring
  • Provide direct nursing care to patients aged 0–18 years
  • Administer immunizations, vaccines, medications (including weight-based dosing), IV therapy, and treatments
  • Assist with procedures such as blood draws and diagnostic tests
  • Support care for acute and chronic pediatric conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, ADHD, allergies)

Care Coordination & Education

  • Develop and implement individualized care plans
  • Educate parents/caregivers on child health, nutrition, safety, medication, and chronic disease management
  • Support mental health screening and family counseling needs
  • Coordinate care with pediatricians and interdisciplinary teams
  • Manage patient flow and transitions of care

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical records (EMR) documentation
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, Privacy Act, and IHS IT security policies
  • Complete required competency validations and weekly timesheets

Additional Duties

  • Float to other nursing departments within the service unit as required
  • Follow directives from supervisory nursing leadership
  • Maintain cultural sensitivity when working with American Indian and Alaska Native populations

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Registered Nurse (RN) degree from an accredited program

License

  • Current, valid, and unrestricted RN license in any U.S. state or territory

Experience

  • Minimum 24 months total nursing experience
  • At least 2 years of pediatric nursing experience required

Required Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – AHA
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – AHA
    (All certifications must remain current throughout assignment)

Required Skills

  • Strong pediatric clinical nursing skills
  • Proficiency in EMR and healthcare IT systems
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written English)
  • Ability to work in a multicultural healthcare environment
  • Flexibility to float across units as needed

Additional Information

  • Credentialing / onboarding time: 6–8 weeks
  • Estimated workload: ~40 hours/week
  • Estimated total hours per 6-month period: ~1,040 hours
  • Submission deadline: May 18, 2026
