Description
Job Title- RN - PCU
Location: Monroe, NC 28112
12-hour night shifts (1900–0700, 36 hours/week).
Facility Overview
- 174-bed hospital (no trauma designation).
- TJC Stroke accredited; part of Lee Garvey Chest Pain Network.
- Community Schools of Nursing (teaching hospital).
- Radius rule: Traveler's permanent address must be 50+ miles from facility.
Unit Details
- 11 PCU beds.
- Minimum 18 months PCU RN experience required.
- First-time travelers not preferred but considered.
- Patient ratios: RN 1:3-4; CNA 1:5-6.
Patient Population
Medical-surgical PCU including:
- Stroke, heart failure, chest pain.
- Fluid resuscitation/blood products, COPD, cardiac cath pre/post.
- ETOH/CIWA, IVDA, respiratory illnesses, GI disorders/infections.
- Liver failure, AKI/CKD.
Required Qualifications
- BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (Resource Team requirement).
- NC RN license (or compact).
Key Skills
- Gtt management: Critical care drips (insulin, nitroglycerin, Cardene, diltiazem, amiodarone); heparin, blood products.
- PCU essentials: Stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tubes, NGT placement, drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals), foley insertion, PCA pumps.
Department Support
- CNA (ratios vary), receptionist/HUC, charge nurse (24/7, may take patients).
- Phlebotomy (peripheral only), IV/VAT team, resource nurse (as available).
- RT 24/7, hospitalist 24/7, intensivist 24/7 (virtual after hours).
- Virtual nurses 24/7; no dedicated tele tech (nurses monitor/response).
Technology & Equipment
- EMR: EPIC.
- IV pumps: Alaris.
- Med dispensing: Omnicell.
- Monitors: Philips.
Scheduling & Shifts
- 12-hour night shifts (1900–0700, 36 hours/week).
- No on-call/call-back.
- Weekends: Every other.
- Holidays: Travelers work 75%.
- RTO: Resource Team approval.
Floating & Orientation
- Required floating within Region 2 (Pineville, Anson, Union, Union West, Central Division: CMC Main, CMC Mercy, Levine Children's Hospital) as needed per scope—decline if not agreeable.
- Paid travel time if floating mid-shift (remain on clock).
- Orientation: NEO + 2 days departmental.
