Position Summary:
Summa Health Barberton Campus is seeking an experienced and highly skilled PCU/Telemetry Registered Nurse for a night shift contract assignment within a 34-bed Cardiac Progressive Care/Telemetry Stroke Overflow Unit. This role requires a strong clinician with experience managing cardiac patients, telemetry monitoring, and stroke overflow populations in a fast-paced acute care environment.
The ideal candidate will possess strong cardiac assessment skills, experience managing cardiac drips, and the ability to work independently while adapting quickly to changing patient care needs.

Unit Overview
This specialized Cardiac PCU/Telemetry unit provides care for patients requiring progressive cardiac monitoring, telemetry observation, and stroke overflow management. Nurses on this unit care for patients with a variety of cardiac and neurological conditions and are expected to work efficiently in a high-acuity environment.
The unit is seeking a strong nurse who can quickly integrate into the team and manage complex patient assignments independently.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to PCU/Telemetry and stroke overflow patients.
- Monitor and interpret telemetry rhythms and recognize cardiac rhythm changes.
- Administer and titrate cardiac drips according to physician orders and facility protocols.
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments and monitor changes in condition.
- Draw blood specimens and independently start and maintain IV access.
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to coordinate patient care plans.
- Respond appropriately to changes in patient status and escalating care needs.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation within the Epic EMR system.
- Follow hospital policies, patient safety standards, and infection control procedures.
- Ensure compliance with medication administration and telemetry monitoring standards.
Patient & Family Support
- Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
- Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care in a fast-paced acute care setting.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Graduate of an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program required.
Licensure & Certifications
- Active RN License required.
- Current BLS Certification required.
- Current ACLS Certification required.
- Current NIH Stroke Scale Certification required.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of recent PCU/Telemetry RN experience required.
- Recent Epic EMR experience within the last 12 months required.
- Recent phlebotomy experience within the last year required.
- Experience managing cardiac drips required.
- Must be proficient with IV insertion and IV maintenance.
