Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center is seeking experienced Emergency Room Crisis Counselors / Licensed Mental Health Clinicians to support Adult & Pediatric Emergency Department behavioral health services in Spokane, WA. This engagement supports the health system’s expanding behavioral health crisis care model within a high-acuity Emergency Department environment.

This is a high-impact, patient-facing role focused on psychiatric crisis intervention, behavioral health assessment, triage, care coordination, and disposition planning for patients presenting with acute behavioral health needs.

• 4 Day Shift Openings
  • 4x10s | 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM
• 4 Night Shift Openings
  • 4x10s | 4:00 PM – 2:00 AM
• 13-week contract assignments
• 40 hours/week
• Every other weekend required (Saturday & Sunday)
• No on-call required
• Start Date: 6/8/2026
• Potential to float to Holy Family Hospital performing similar duties if overstaffed

Responsibilities

• Complete psychiatric crisis assessments for adult and pediatric Emergency Department patients
• Perform biopsychosocial assessments and behavioral health evaluations
• Provide level-of-care recommendations to physicians and nursing staff
• Coordinate inpatient psychiatric referrals, safety planning, and discharge planning
• Complete Single Bed Certification (SBC) assessments when psychiatrists are unavailable
• Initiate Designated Crisis Responder (DCR) evaluations when clinically indicated
• Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary ED and behavioral health teams
• Support patients and families with counseling, treatment planning, and care navigation
• Participate in treatment planning and ongoing care coordination
• Document assessments, recommendations, and care coordination activities within Epic EMR

Requirements

• Active Washington LICSW, LMFT, or Mental Health Counselor license
• BLS certification
• Minimum 1 year of experience required
• Experience conducting psychiatric/crisis assessments for adult and pediatric patients
• Emergency Department or hospital behavioral health experience preferred
• Experience with involuntary holds / psychiatric emergency workflows preferred
• Ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-acuity behavioral health environments
