Job Title: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse – Travel Assignment

Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse to join a fast-paced, high-acuity unit focused on cardiac recovery. This 22-bed unit provides care for a diverse patient population requiring close monitoring and timely interventions. This position includes a SimpliFi clinical interview with manager approval and is open to first-time travelers.
Unit & Patient Overview
Unit Size: 22 beds
Patient Population:
Post-cardiac catheterization patients
TAVR and Mitral Clip patients
Esophagectomy, wedge resection, lobectomy patients
Other cardiac patients requiring continuous monitoring
Unit Focus: Recovery-focused with high patient turnover
Schedule & Ratios
Patient Ratios: 1:5 (goal 1:4)
Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend
On-Call: Not required
Holidays: Rotating schedule
RTO: Requires Nurse Manager approval
Minimum Requirements
Experience:
At least 1 year of PCU experience
First-time travelers accepted
Certifications:
BLS (Basic Life Support)
ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
NIHSS (Stroke Certification)
Required Skills
Cardiac monitoring and care
Management of cardiac drips
Chest tube management
Sheath pulls (training provided if needed)
Care of post-cardiac cath patients
Esophageal surgery recovery (esophagectomy patients)
Tube feeding and doff management
Preferred: Arterial line management for TAVR patients
Ability to scrub and perform advanced PCU-level interventions
Support & Resources
PCA/CNA: 2–3 per shift
Charge Nurse: Yes (reduced assignment)
HUC: Yes
Respiratory Therapy: 24/7 coverage
Hospitalist: Available
Telemetry Monitoring: Yes
Phlebotomy/IV Team: Available for stat, blood cultures, and specialty draws
Technology & Equipment
EMR: Cerner
IV Pumps: Plum ICU Medical
Medication Dispensing: Omnicell
Monitoring System: Phillips
Additional Equipment: Portable heart monitors, IV ultrasound machine, bladder scanner
