Registered Nurse (RN) – Labor & Delivery (L&D) | PRN Contract
 

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) – Labor & Delivery (L&D) to join our team on a PRN contract basis. The RN will provide comprehensive care to obstetric patients throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and the immediate postpartum period. The ideal candidate will possess strong fetal monitoring skills, experience managing high-risk pregnancies, and the ability to respond effectively in emergent situations involving both mother and newborn.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn patients.
  • Monitor maternal and fetal status throughout labor and delivery using electronic fetal monitoring systems.
  • Assist physicians, certified nurse midwives, and obstetric teams during deliveries and obstetrical procedures.
  • Identify and respond to obstetric and neonatal emergencies, initiating appropriate interventions.
  • Administer medications, IV therapy, blood products, and treatments in accordance with physician orders and hospital protocols.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding labor, delivery, recovery, breastfeeding, and newborn care.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure safe and effective patient outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain adherence to patient safety standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Minimum of 2 years recent Labor & Delivery experience preferred.
  • Experience caring for high-risk obstetrical patients.
  • Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.

Required Certifications

Candidates must possess and maintain the following certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • AWHONN Fetal Heart Monitoring Certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification
  • STABLE Program Certification
  • Stroke CEUs Nursing Annual Certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous travel nursing or PRN experience.
  • Experience with EPIC, Cerner, or other electronic medical record systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of maternal-fetal care and evidence-based obstetric practices.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a dynamic clinical setting.
