Job Description:

We are seeking a kind, team-oriented, and flexible Med-Surg Registered Nurse for a 13-week day-shift travel contract on the Observation unit at Franciscan Health Lafayette. This active 16-bed unit is ideal for a nurse who thrives in a fast-paced environment with quick patient turnarounds, ambulatory workflows, and diagnostic chest pain rule-outs.

Facility Details & Unit Highlights:

• Facility: Franciscan Health Lafayette
• Unit: Observation Unit (16 beds)
• Patient Ratio: 1:5 Framework
• Patient Mix: Short-stay, ambulatory populations, chest pain rule-outs, pre-surgical prep, and scheduled IV antibiotic therapies.
• Charting System: Epic EMR
• Dress Code: Solid Navy Blue scrubs.

Key Responsibilities & Scope:

• Manage short-stay observation caseloads, ensuring strong assessment skills during rapid diagnostics and inpatient status updates.
• Coordinate care for patients moving actively between telemetry, imaging, and lab tests.
• Maintain schedule flexibility—standard shifts run 0600–1830, with a minor adjustment to 0530–1800 if stepping into a leadership or Charge role.
• Float seamlessly to adjacent Med/Surg units matching your skill level if needed.

Requirements:

• Minimum 2+ years of recent acute care RN experience (Med/Surg or Obs unit experience preferred).
• Active Indiana or Compact RN License in hand.
• Current BLS certification.
• Preferred Experience: Strong EKG interpretation skills and prior Charge/leadership experience are highly prioritized.
• Kind, reliable communication style with a resilient "can-do" attitude.
