UNIT: ADMISSIONS & TRANSFER
MGR INTERVIEW

Primary Location Aspirus Wausau Hospital Corporate Office

Float: NA

On Call/Call Back Requirements: Can be low censused and put on call. Call back minimum is 2 hours

Weekend/Holiday Requirements: Every other weekend and every other holiday  

Required Certifications:  WI RN License, AHA or ARC BLS.

Minimum Experience: 3-5 yrs ICU or ER experience ( 5 yrs experience preferred )  Trauma level II experience REQUIRED . Transfer Call Center Experience highly preferred

Charting Experience: EPIC REQUIRED..

Unit Information:  Admissions and Transfer Center : 
o    Communication is a critical part of the role.
o    Facilitates consults and transfers for patient placement for 16 Aspirus hospitals.
o    Responsible for coordinating patient admissions from other healthcare facilities and physician offices and clinics.
o    Follows protocols, policies and algorithms along with demonstrates understanding of Aspirus system and regulatory requirements for Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA). 
o    Anticipates admission needs and communicates findings with the transferring department and collaborates to obtain optimal patient flow across the system. 
o    Coordinates across all disciplines to coordinate patient transfers, including disposition, ambulance transportation, specialist referrals, etc.
o    Provides estimated time of arrival to both referring and accepting sites as well as pertinent information for timely hand off between facilities.
o    Responsible for accurate documentation and tracking of all patient transfers into and out of the Aspirus system. 
o    Facilitates the movement of patients for any leave of absence procedures or testing within the Aspirus system. 
o    Adjusts day-to-day operations to provide efficient acceptance for critically ill patients by collaborating closely with the bed planning teams at the tertiary care sites and proactively having awareness of bed availability. 
o    Identifies opportunities to improve the patient experience by efficient facilitation of transfers to the most appropriate bed and reduce patients boarding in the emergency departments.
o    Uses critical thinking skills to provide the best course of action for patient care while ensuring placement of the right patient in the right bed. 
o    Remotely engages with facility staff to monitor and document transfer need: communicates patient condition to sending or receiving providers and facilities.
o    Accurately completes effective and expedient placement of patients from all nursing units. 
o    Utilizes the chain of command to advocate for a patient’s need of priority admission or transfer to higher level of care.
o    Plans, implements, and evaluates patient needs based on reported assessment to optimize outcomes and maximize available resources. Remotely triages using critical care of emergency department experience to identify patient care needs providing expert and timely recommendations for correct facility transfer based on patient’s acuity, service required, condition, circumstances, and area facility capacity and capability matrixes. 
o    ** 2 RNs working Nights – 2-4 RNS working Days

Scrub Colors: any color or business casual

Contract is eligible for 36 hours of low census unbillable hours     
travelers can be put on call during the 36 hours of unbillable low census. If called back in, they will have call back pay.    

GSA hours are not guaranteed the week of Orientation. Traveler is guaranteed set hours per week, except during holidays where unit is closed.

During flu season, any traveler who declines flu and COVID vaccination is required to wear a mask at all times. This is an Aspirus policy, and compliance is mandatory (No exceptions). Failure to follow the policy may result in corrective action.
