Travel Cardiac Sonographer (Echo Tech) – Inpatient Echocardiography
Location: Portland, Maine
Facility: Maine Medical Center
Start Date: July 5, 2026
Assignment Length: 13 Weeks
Shift: Days (7:00 AM – 5:30 PM)
Schedule: 40 Hours/Week
Join Maine Medical Center, Maine’s largest tertiary care hospital and Level I Trauma Center, as a Travel Cardiac Sonographer in a busy inpatient echocardiography lab. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced echo technologist who thrives in a high-acuity environment while working alongside cardiologists, fellows, and an experienced cardiovascular imaging team.
Located in Portland, you’ll enjoy Maine’s vibrant waterfront, nationally acclaimed restaurants, outdoor recreation, and beautiful coastal scenery while gaining experience at one of New England’s premier academic medical centers.
Position Details
• Specialty: Inpatient Echocardiography
• Assignment Length: 13 Weeks
• Start Date: ASAP
• Shift: Days (7:00 AM – 5:30 PM)
• Schedule: 40 hours per week
• Rotating weekday and weekend schedule
• Overnight Call:
• 2–3 nights per month
• 5:30 PM – 6:30 AM
• Strict call-in criteria with cardiologist approval
Daily Responsibilities
• Perform approximately 7–8 echocardiograms per day
• Deliver high-quality cardiac imaging while maintaining accreditation and quality standards
• Collaborate closely with cardiologists, fellows, and the multidisciplinary cardiovascular team
Requirements
• Minimum of 5 years of echocardiography experience
• At least 2 years of recent acute inpatient echocardiography experience in a Level I Trauma Center
• Minimum of 1 year of travel experience
• Expertise performing:
• Transthoracic Echocardiograms (TTE)
• Stress Echocardiograms
• Transesophageal Echocardiograms (TEE)
• 3D Echocardiography
• Strain Imaging
• Strong understanding of complex cardiac anatomy and pathology
• Experience utilizing ultrasound contrast agents to optimize image quality
• Ability to manage a high-volume inpatient workload while maintaining exceptional diagnostic accuracy
• Excellent communication, organization, and patient care skills
Preferred Skills
• Thorough knowledge of ASE (American Society of Echocardiography) and IAC (Intersocietal Accreditation Commission) standards
• Commitment to quality improvement, collaboration, and ongoing professional development
• Experience participating in case reviews and multidisciplinary educational opportunities
