Behavioral Health RN

Position: Registered Nurse (RN) – Behavioral Health
Facility: Valley Springs Behavioral Health Hospital
Unit: Forensic Unit – Mountain View
Location: Massachusetts
Setting: Locked Behavioral Health / Continuing Care
Shift: Days – 7:00 AM–3:30 PM
Guaranteed Hours: 40 hrs/week
Contract: 13 weeks
Weekend: Every other weekend
Call: None
Patient Ratio: 1:9
Patient Population: Adults 18+ with mental health and legal histories

Responsibilities:

• Provide nursing care to adult behavioral health patients in a locked/forensic setting.
• Assess and monitor patients' physical and mental health conditions.
• Administer medications using Omnicell.
• Monitor vital signs and point-of-care blood glucose.
• Recognize and respond to changes in patient behavior and condition.
• Provide compassionate, trauma-informed care.
• Collaborate with psychiatrists, social workers, rehabilitation staff, and the medical team.
• Support patients with conditions such as bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder, major depression, substance abuse, diabetes, HTN, and COPD.
• Adjust care according to changing patient needs.

Requirements:

• 3 years of RN experience required.
• Massachusetts RN license required at submission.
• BLS – AHA required.
• Handle With Care (HWC) required – can be completed onsite if needed.
• Behavioral health/mental health experience required.
• Experience working with patients in a locked behavioral health/forensic setting required.
• Must be comfortable administering medications through Omnicell.
• BSN preferred.
• Trauma-informed and compassionate approach required.
