Operating Room Surgical Technologist

Location: Washington State

Assignment: Travel
Schedule: 4 × 10-hour shifts, Monday–Friday
Call: 1 call shift per 4-week schedule

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Operating Room Surgical Technologist (OR Tech) to join a high-volume, multidisciplinary surgical team. This is a large OR department with 22 suites and the capability to expand to 26 suites across three floors, averaging approximately 50–65 cases per day.

First-time travelers are welcome. The surgical team and physicians are highly supportive, collaborative, and willing to teach.

Licensing & Certification Requirements

Must have an active Washington State license/registration at the time of submission. Pending licenses will not be considered.

  • Current Washington State Surgical Technologist registration required.
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
  • BLS certification required.
  • National CST certification is not required.
  • Minimum 1 year of scrubbing experience required.
  • First-time travelers are welcome.

Required Clinical Experience

The ideal candidate must have strong OR scrubbing experience and be comfortable with complex surgical cases across multiple service lines.

Required Skills & Experience

  • ENT experience, including:
    • FESS/sinus procedures
    • Septoplasty
    • Cochlear implants
    • Tympanoplasty
    • Laryngoscopy
    • Thyroid/parathyroid procedures and other soft-tissue cases
  • Da Vinci Xi robotic experience required, specifically with:
    • Gynecology
    • Urology
    • General Surgery
  • Experience with large and complex surgical cases.

Common Surgical Cases

The department supports approximately 16 different service lines, including:

  • GYN
  • Urology
  • Vascular
  • Plastics
  • Orthopedics, including total hips and knees
  • Neurology/Neurosurgery
  • Cardiovascular
  • Thoracic
  • General Surgery
    • Breast
    • HPB
    • Bariatric
  • Sports Medicine
    • Hand
    • Podiatry
  • Kidney and kidney/pancreatic transplants
  • ENT
  • Robotic surgery using the Da Vinci Xi

Schedule

  • Four 10-hour shifts per week
  • Variable days and start times, Monday–Friday
  • Available start times:
    • 6:30 AM
    • 9:00 AM
    • 11:00 AM
  • No self-scheduling.
  • Start times will generally remain consistent throughout the same week.
  • Tuesdays and Fridays typically have later start times to accommodate in-services and team meetings.

Call Requirements

  • 1 call shift per 4-week schedule, either weekday or weekend.
  • Weekday call begins at the end of the scheduled shift and continues until 7:00 AM the following morning.
  • Weekend call is a 24-hour shift, 7:00 AM–7:00 AM.
  • Weekend call is rotated between staff and travelers.
  • Call schedule is determined by management.
  • 30-minute response time required.
  • A call room is available.
  • No holiday call requirement.

Orientation

Department-specific orientation includes:

  • HR orientation
  • OR leadership orientation
  • Scavenger hunt
  • Two days working directly with a surgical technologist

Important: Travelers must bring their own earphones/headphones during the first week of orientation for onsite online training.

  • Teal scrubs; scrubs are provided.
  • Charge Nurse/House Supervisor available.
  • Supportive physicians and OR staff.
