Job Title: Registered Nurse - Observation / Medical-Surgical (Med Surg RN)

Compensation & Schedule Details
- Hours & Shift: 36 guaranteed hours per week (12-hour Nights, 1830–0700). 48-hour contracts available upon request (OT goes into effect after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts). Bi-weekly orientation starting November 2, 2026.
- Contract Length: 13 weeks.
- Weekend & Holiday Requirements: 3 weekends out of every 6-week schedule; every other holiday.
- Distance & Attendance Rules: Strict 40-mile radius rule (no local candidates). Maximum of 3 call-ins permitted before termination.
Key Facility Policies & Floating Rules
- Cross-Campus Floating: First to float within skillset. May float to Deaconess Midtown (IN) campus (8 miles away) or Deaconess Henderson (KY) campus (11 miles away) with a 2-hour notice.
- Unit Scope & Ratios: 32-bed observation unit. Night shift ratios are 1:5–7 (supported by LPNs and CNAs). Patient population includes chest pain, abdominal pain, CVA/TIA, and generalized weakness. Charting via Epic (requires check-off class). Teaching facility—may require precepting of students and new hires. Navy blue scrubs required.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of strong Med/Surg experience, at least 1 prior travel assignment, and Level II trauma experience required.
- Clinical Skills: PIV insertion and management of stable drips (heparin, lasix, protonix). Strong assessment and critical thinking required.
- Licensure: Active compact RN license in hand.
- Certifications: AHA BLS and NIHSS required at submittal.

Cons
Lack benefits and perks other companies offer. Was incorrectly paid more than once. The assignment was the worst I’ve experienced from management down to housekeeping. They nitpick travelers on every level and give them double the respiratory therapist to patient ratio with every assignment spread over multiple floors and areas on every side of the facility. Staff makes no attempt at teamwork. Bottom line: Malone is ok🥴 but has MUCH room to improve. Elizabethtown, KY is awful and puts their patients and your license at risk every shift. Don’t do it!
