Pharmacist Supervisor (Retail):
Facility: San Carlos Apache Healthcare Center
Location: 103 Medicine Way, Peridot, AZ 85542
Position: Pharmacist Supervisor / Pharmacy-Retail Supervisor
Position Overview:
San Carlos Apache Healthcare Center is seeking an experienced Pharmacist Supervisor to oversee daily pharmacy operations, staff, medication dispensing activities, inventory, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will have strong hospital pharmacy experience, leadership experience supervising pharmacy technicians and staff, and the ability to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant pharmacy services.
This position is well suited for a pharmacist with both clinical/pharmacy operations and supervisory experience who can support day-to-day departmental operations and contribute to continuous quality improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct, manage, and supervise daily pharmacy operations to ensure high-quality, timely, and compliant pharmacy services.
- Supervise pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and support staff, providing guidance, feedback, training, and performance support.
- Ensure accurate and safe medication dispensing while maintaining compliance with professional, regulatory, and governmental standards.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate pharmacy policies, procedures, and operational processes.
- Monitor departmental performance, quality measures, and operational outcomes and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Oversee computer-based pharmacy information and medication dispensing systems to maintain accuracy and efficiency.
- Manage pharmaceutical purchasing, inventory, storage, and availability while supporting cost-effective inventory practices.
- Support medication safety, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and error-prevention initiatives.
- Assess staff training needs and coordinate orientation, education, competency development, and on-the-job training.
- Prepare and review monthly operational/progress reports and identify areas requiring improvement.
- Participate in hospital and departmental educational programs to maintain current professional knowledge and competencies.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, healthcare professionals, and pharmacy staff to support safe and effective patient care.
- Perform additional pharmacy-related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited school of pharmacy.
- PharmD preferred; PGY1 residency preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of pharmacist experience.
- Hospital pharmacy experience required/preferred, with a minimum of 2 years of hospital practice preferred.
- Supervisory/management experience, including experience supervising pharmacy technicians and/or pharmacy staff.
- Strong pharmacy operations, medication safety, regulatory compliance, and quality-assurance experience.
- Current and active unrestricted Pharmacist license.
- Arizona Pharmacist license preferred.
- Current BLS (AHA) certification or ability to obtain within the required timeframe.
- Immunization/vaccine administration authorization preferred.
- Must successfully pass required background and drug screening.
Preferred Candidate Profile
- Pharmacist with strong hospital and pharmacy operations experience.
- At least 3 years of professional pharmacist experience.
- Experience supervising pharmacy technicians and/or pharmacy personnel.
- Previous pharmacy supervisor or management experience strongly preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a healthcare environment and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Candidates local to the Peridot, AZ area are preferred, with potential for future full-time conversion based on facility needs and performance.
- No disciplinary history preferred/required.
Education & Certification:
Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD
- PharmD and PGY1 residency preferred
Licensure:
- Current, active, unrestricted Pharmacist license
- Arizona license preferred
Certification:
- BLS (AHA) required within the facility's specified timeframe
