Inpatient Pharmacist – Night Shift:

 

Facility: San Carlos Apache Healthcare Center
Location: 103 Medicine Way, Peridot, AZ 85542
Department: Pharmacy
Position: Inpatient Pharmacist
Primary Shift: Nights
Schedule: Variable shifts as needed — Nights, Days, Swing, and Weekends
Call: None

Position Overview:

San Carlos Apache Healthcare Center is seeking an experienced Inpatient Pharmacist to join its collaborative pharmacy team. The pharmacist will support inpatient pharmacy services, with a primary focus on night-shift coverage, while remaining flexible to support different pharmacy functions and schedules as needed.

The ideal candidate will have hospital pharmacy experience, strong clinical knowledge, excellent medication-management skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Experience supporting inpatient and/or ER pharmacy services is preferred.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide safe, accurate, and timely pharmaceutical care to hospital and outpatient patients as assigned.
  • Review and process medication orders and prescriptions in accordance with established policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
  • Support inpatient pharmacy operations, including medication preparation, verification, dispensing, and distribution.
  • Provide pharmacy support to the Emergency Room (ER) and other clinical areas as needed.
  • Process controlled substances accurately and in compliance with facility policies and federal/state regulations.
  • Monitor medication therapy and maintain current knowledge of medications, dosing, interactions, contraindications, and safety considerations.
  • Counsel patients regarding medications, appropriate use, potential side effects, and other medication-related concerns.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support safe and effective patient care.
  • Respond appropriately to medication-related questions and clinical needs from hospital staff.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and pharmacy records using applicable pharmacy information and EHR systems.
  • Utilize automated medication-dispensing and pharmacy technology, including Omnicell and other pharmacy systems.
  • Maintain compliance with pharmacy policies, regulatory requirements, medication-safety standards, and quality initiatives.
  • Support inventory management, medication storage, and timely availability of pharmaceuticals.
  • Maintain a positive, professional, and collaborative relationship with pharmacy and hospital staff.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to work in different pharmacy areas and adjust to changing operational needs.
  • Participate in departmental education, quality-assurance activities, and professional development.
  • Perform other pharmacy-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and/or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited school of pharmacy.
  • Current and active unrestricted Pharmacist license.
  • Arizona Pharmacist license.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Previous hospital pharmacy experience required.
  • Strong medication knowledge and clinical judgment.
  • Ability to work independently, particularly during night-shift coverage.
  • Strong communication, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be flexible with days, hours, nights, swing shifts, and weekends based on facility needs.
  • Must successfully pass required background and drug screening.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years of clinical pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Previous inpatient pharmacy experience.
  • Previous ER pharmacy experience.
  • ACLS and PALS preferred for inpatient/ER coverage.
  • PALS may be obtained onsite, if required.
  • Experience with Omnicell ADCs, Carousel, ScriptPro, RPMS EHR, or similar pharmacy/EHR systems.
  • Experience with medication dispensing technology and automated pharmacy systems.
  • Experience administering immunizations, vaccines, and emergency medications preferred.

Pharmacy Department:

San Carlos Apache Healthcare Center is a Tribal 638 healthcare facility serving the San Carlos Apache community. The pharmacy operates as part of a collaborative healthcare environment and supports both outpatient and hospital services.

The pharmacy team includes approximately:

  • 6–7 pharmacists
  • 4 pharmacy technicians
  • 4 outpatient clerks
  • 4-person billing team

The department utilizes modern pharmacy technology, including:

  • ScriptPro Pharmacy Management System
  • SP200 Robot
  • RPMS Electronic Health Record
  • Omnicell Automated Dispensing Cabinets
  • Omnicell Carousel
  • Kirby Lester counting machine

The pharmacy processes approximately 1,000 prescriptions per day and supports vaccine services, warfarin management, hospital clinical teams, community outreach, and other healthcare programs.

 

Schedule & Flexibility:

  • Primary need: Night Shift
  • Shifts may include nights, days, swing shifts, and weekends
  • No call requirement
  • No floating requirement
  • Candidate must be flexible to work different days and hours according to operational needs.

 

Facility Policies & Expectations

  • Timekeeping through Kronos
  • Lunch breaks are required
  • Overtime requires manager approval/signature
  • Cell phone use is not permitted while working
  • Sick calls/injuries should be reported to the manager or supervisor
  • Call-outs require at least 2 hours' notice
  • Missed shifts are not permitted
  • Facility may cancel one shift every two weeks
  • No block scheduling requirement

  • Scrubs: Caribbean Blue or business professional
  • Shoes: Closed-toe
  • Hair: Natural colors
  • Nails: Short; no unnatural nails
  • Tattoos: Non-offensive
  • Piercings: Not excessive; no facial piercings

Housing:

Facility housing may be available for eligible travelers. Pets are not permitted on the housing property.
