Position Overview

Ardent Health Services is seeking experienced Travel Registered Nurses (RNs) to join the 5 North Telemetry unit at UT Health Tyler in Tyler, Texas. This 36-bed unit provides medical-level cardiac care to adult patients, ranging from young adults to geriatric patients.

The unit primarily cares for patients recovering from cardiac interventions, including cardiac surgery, coronary artery stent placement, and pacemaker implantation. It also manages hemodynamically stable patients with non-procedural cardiac conditions.

The ideal candidate will have strong telemetry nursing experience, cardiac monitoring skills, and the ability to provide safe, compassionate care in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult telemetry and cardiac patients.
• Monitor cardiac rhythms and recognize changes in patients’ cardiac status.
• Care for patients recovering from cardiac surgery, cardiac catheterization, coronary stent placement, pacemaker implantation, and myocardial infarction.
• Administer medications and manage cardiac-related treatment protocols, including heparin and non-titrated vasoactive infusions.
• Perform assessments, develop and implement nursing care plans, and evaluate patient outcomes.
• Provide central line, PICC line, peripheral IV, and other vascular access care.
• Initiate and maintain IV therapy and administer blood products as required.
• Respond appropriately to changes in patient condition and participate in rapid response and emergency procedures.
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, pharmacy, and other interdisciplinary team members.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation using Epic.
• Follow infection control procedures, isolation precautions, and hospital safety standards.
• Float to other units as required by facility needs.

Required Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible to practice in Texas.
• Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience; approximately 1.5 years may be considered based on the facility’s job overview.
• Recent Telemetry, Cardiac Telemetry, or Medical-Surgical/Telemetry experience.
• Previous travel nursing experience required.
• Experience managing a patient assignment of approximately 1:5–6.
• Epic charting experience required.
• Strong cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation skills.
• Ability to work night shifts and complete approximately half of the contract’s weekend coverage.

Required Certifications

• BLS – Basic Life Support
• ACLS – Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support

Preferred Certification:

• NIHSS – National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale

• Central line, PICC line, and peripheral IV management
• Blood product administration
• Oxygen therapy, HFNC, and non-invasive airway management
• BiPAP/CPAP management
• Feeding tube care and management
• Insulin protocols and insulin drip management
• Wound care and wound VAC management
• Renal failure care and pre-/post-hemodialysis management
• Emergency response and rapid response/code team participation
