WVU JW Ruby Memorial Hospital
Specialty: Stepdown / Observation RN
Shift: Nights, 3×12s (7:00 PM–7:30 AM)
Hours: 36 guaranteed/week

Unit
OBS 6N & 6C — 31 beds total, consisting of two separate units on the same floor.
- Stepdown ratio: 1:3
- Floor ratio: 1:5–6
- Support: 3–4 nurse aides for 31 patients
- Charge RN each shift + house supervisor in-house 24/7
- RT available 24/7
- No ventilators on the unit
- Telemetry with monitor techs; RNs must read and interpret strips
- Stepdown RNs must be comfortable titrating drips
- Heparin drips are used on the floor
Common patients: Med/Surg, cardiac, insulin-dependent diabetes, COPD, trauma, ortho, ENT, urology and pain-management patients.
Required: BLS + ACLS.
Schedule: Every other weekend. Travelers may be required to work holidays. Posting mentions call, although the unit notes list the actual call/standby requirement as unknown.
