RN – Telemetry / Med-Surg | Level I Trauma

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for a high-acuity Level I Trauma environment supporting Telemetry, Neuro, and Medical-Surgical units. The ideal candidate must have strong telemetry skills, be comfortable interpreting EKGs, and have demonstrated experience titrating cardiac drips.

This is a highly flexible role where floating is required based on hospital census, patient acuity, and staffing needs.

Facility & Clinical Information

• Trauma Level: Level I
• Charting: Cerner
• Shifts: 12-hour shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM / 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• Scrubs: Navy
• Orientation: Unit-specific orientation generally includes 2 shifts on the assigned floor.
• Age Group: 15 years and older; no pediatrics.

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license
• BLS and ACLS required
• Strong Telemetry experience
• Ability to interpret EKGs/rhythm strips
• Must be able to titrate cardiac drips
• Experience working in a fast-paced hospital environment
• Strong clinical assessment and prioritization skills
• Ability and willingness to float between multiple units and campuses

Pre-Contract & Orientation Requirements

• Travelers must successfully complete a dysrhythmia examination before signing the contract.
• Maximum of 2 attempts; exam must be completed within 48 hours of offer.
• A pass/fail simulation lab is also required on Day 1 of orientation.
• Failure of the required exam or simulation may result in removal from the assignment.

Floating Requirements

Floating is required.

Depending on experience and skill level, nurses may float to:

• Cardiac Telemetry
• General Telemetry
• Medical-Surgical units
• ICU
• Observation
• Holding areas
• Cath Lab holding areas
• ER holding areas
• Hallway/overflow areas

Floating may occur between Chandler and Mercy Gilbert campuses.

• Campus/unit assignment is communicated approximately 1.5 hours before shift start.
• Mid-shift floating may occur.
• Floating between campuses during the same shift is uncommon but possible.
• The two campuses are approximately 9 miles apart.
• When changing campuses, nurses must clock out at one location and clock in upon arrival at the other.

• Beds: 32
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS
• Ratio: 1:3–4
• Charge Nurse: Yes; does not take a patient assignment
• Clinical Supervisor: Yes
• PCT Support: Approximately 1 PCT per 16 patients
• Telemetry: Centralized monitoring; RN must interpret EKGs
• RT: 24/7
• Pharmacy: 24/7
• IV Team: No
• Vents: No
• Weekend: Every other weekend
• Orientation: 2 floor shifts

Common Patient Population

• Post-cath patients
• Post-vascular procedure patients
• Day 2 CABG patients
• General telemetry patients

Cardiac Drips

Experience with cardiac drips is essential. Common medications include:

• Amiodarone (Amio)
• Cardene
• Nitroglycerin
• Heparin
• Dobutamine — titrate down only

Tele Neuro – A3

• Beds: 28
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• Ratio: 1:3–4
• Charge Nurse: Yes; no patient assignment
• Clinical Supervisor: Yes
• PCT Support: Approximately 1 PCT per 16 patients
• Telemetry: Centralized monitoring; RN must interpret EKGs
• RT: 24/7
• Pharmacy: 24/7
• IV Team: No
• Vents: No
• Weekend: Every other weekend
• Shifts: 7:00 AM–7:00 PM / 7:00 PM–7:00 AM
• Orientation: 2 floor shifts

Patient Population

• Post-neurosurgical patients
• Post-craniotomy patients
• Spine patients
• CVA patients post-TPA

Note: No ICP monitoring on this unit.

Medical-Surgical C5

• Beds: 32
• Patient Mix: Approximately 80% Surgical / 20% Oncology
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS
• Ratio: 1:4 days and nights
• Charge Nurse: Yes; does not take patients
• Unit Supervisor: Yes
• PCT Support: Days; 1 PCT or Task RN at night
• Telemetry: GE monitors with centralized monitoring
• RT: 24/7
• Pharmacy: 24/7
• IV Team: No; House SWAT Nurse available for difficult IV access
• Weekend: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period
  • Days: Saturday/Sunday
  • Nights: Friday/Saturday
• Holiday: One major and one minor holiday
• Orientation: 2 floor shifts
• Floating: Med-Surg Tele B2C and B2D

Patient Population

• Orthopedic patients
• Surgical patients
• Oncology patients
• Urological procedures
• Abdominal surgery
• Whipple procedures
• Women's surgical patients (non-OB/GYN)

The orthopedic program includes a JHACO-certified knee and hip program with approximately 8–10 elective knee/hip procedures per week.

Medical-Surgical B2C

• Beds: 29
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS
• Ratio: 1:4 days and nights
• Charge Nurse: Yes; does not take patients
• Unit Supervisor: Yes
• PCT Support: Days; 1 PCT or SWAT RN at night
• Telemetry: GE monitors with centralized monitoring
• RT: 24/7
• Pharmacy: 24/7
• IV Team: No; House SWAT Nurse available for difficult IV access
• Weekend: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period
• Holiday: One major and one minor holiday
• Orientation: 2 floor shifts
• Floating: Med-Surg Tele C5 and B2D

Patient Population

• General Med-Surg patients requiring telemetry
• Cardiac monitoring patients
• Patients requiring medications such as:
  • Amiodarone
  • Cardizem — titrate down only

B2C also serves as a new-graduate training unit, where new graduates receive approximately 4 weeks of training with a Clinical Scholar.

Scheduling & Staffing

• 12-hour shifts
• 7:00 AM–7:00 PM / 7:00 PM–7:00 AM
• Floating is an integral part of the assignment.
• Weekend requirements vary by unit.
• Holiday rotation applies.
• Staff may be reassigned based on census, patient acuity, and operational needs.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a highly adaptable RN with strong Telemetry, Cardiac, and Med-Surg experience, excellent EKG interpretation skills, and demonstrated competency with cardiac drips. Candidates should be comfortable working across multiple units, caring for diverse patient populations, and adapting quickly to changing staffing and patient-care needs.
