Position Summary:

San Carlos Apache Healthcare Center is seeking an experienced Pharmacist to join its pharmacy team. This is a hospital-based position with a strong outpatient pharmacy operation, while pharmacists may also be required to support inpatient and Emergency Room pharmacy services based on department needs.

The ideal candidate will have hospital pharmacy experience, strong current medication knowledge, excellent patient counseling skills, and the flexibility to work across different pharmacy areas and schedules.

Candidates must be comfortable working days, evenings/swing shifts, nights, and weekends as required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Process and dispense prescriptions accurately and in a timely manner.
• Review medication orders for accuracy, appropriateness, interactions, and potential contraindications.
• Counsel patients regarding medications, dosage, administration, precautions, and potential side effects.
• Process controlled substances in accordance with facility policies, applicable laws, and regulatory requirements.
• Support outpatient, inpatient, and ER pharmacy services as needed.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals regarding medication therapy.
• Maintain current knowledge of medications, clinical practices, and pharmacy regulations.
• Provide safe and effective medication management to patients.
• Assist with medication inventory, ordering, storage, and controlled-substance management.
• Utilize pharmacy technology and automated dispensing systems accurately.
• Maintain appropriate documentation and comply with facility policies and procedures.
• Participate in quality assurance, education, and training activities.
• Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to work where pharmacy coverage is needed.
• Perform other pharmacy-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Hospital pharmacy experience required.
• Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from an accredited pharmacy school and/or PharmD.
• Current and active, unrestricted state Pharmacist license.
• Arizona Pharmacist license preferred.
• BLS certification required.
• ACLS required for inpatient/ER pharmacy coverage.
• PALS required for inpatient/ER coverage; PALS may be obtained on-site.
• Strong medication knowledge and clinical judgment.
• Excellent patient counseling and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Must be flexible to work across outpatient, inpatient, and ER areas as needed.
• Must be flexible with days, nights, swing shifts, and weekends.
• Must successfully pass required background and drug screening.

Preferred Experience

• 2+ years of clinical pharmacy experience
• Inpatient/ER pharmacy experience
• Experience working in both outpatient and hospital pharmacy settings
• Experience with automated medication dispensing systems

Pharmacy Department

The pharmacy department is a robust operation serving the San Carlos Apache community.

Current Staffing:

• 6–7 Outpatient Pharmacists
• 4 Outpatient Clerks
• 4 Outpatient Pharmacy Technicians
• 4-person Billing Team

Pharmacy Technology & Equipment:

• ScriptPro Pharmacy Management System
• SP200 Robot
• RPMS Electronic Health Record
• Omnicell Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADCs)
• Omnicell Carousel
• Kirby Lester counting machine

The pharmacy processes approximately 1,000 prescriptions per day with the support of its pharmacy team and automation technology. The department also supports clinical teams throughout the hospital and community.

Schedule Requirements

Pharmacists must be flexible with scheduling. Available shifts may include:

• Day shifts
• Swing shifts
• Night shifts
• Weekend shifts

Unit Policies

• Timekeeping: Kronos
• Lunch: Required
• Overtime: Manager signature required
• Cell Phone Use: Not permitted while working
• Call-In: Manager or Pharmacy must be notified at least 2 hours in advance
• Missed Shifts: Not permitted
• Cancellation: Client may cancel 1 shift every 2 weeks
• Block Scheduling: N/A / Monday–Friday scheduling as applicable

Important Candidate Requirements

Hospital pharmacy experience is required. Candidates must be flexible to work in outpatient pharmacy and provide inpatient/ER coverage when needed. Flexibility with days, nights, swing shifts, and weekends is required.
