Title: Clinical Lab Scientist – Blood Bank
Location: Orange, CA 92868
Shift: Nights, 4x10-hour (9:30 PM–7:30 AM); start time may flex to 8:00 PM
Duration: 13 weeks

Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years of Clinical Lab Scientist experience – hard stop
• Recent/current Blood Bank experience within the last 2 years
• Seasoned traveler with multiple Blood Bank travel assignments – required
• ASCP-BB certification required; Clin. Immunohem Sci preferred
• Epic experience required; Epic Beaker preferred
• Blood Bank software experience required; Immucor and WellSky preferred
• Trauma Level I experience required; Trauma Level II experience required
• Experience in a large hospital (300+ beds) required
• Ability to work independently on night shift
• High-volume Blood Bank experience with type/screen and crossmatch
• Rotating weekends and holidays required; must commit to working 3 of 5 designated holidays

Description:

• Perform high-volume Blood Bank testing and procedures, including ABO/Rh, antibody screening and identification, AHG crossmatching, antigen typing, Coombs testing, electronic crossmatching, and transfusion reaction workups.
• Process and manage blood specimens, including accessioning, labeling, storage, transport, and specimen handling while maintaining quality and safety standards.
• Perform blood product preparation and management, including thawing/cooling, Rhogam screening, component modification, and blood specimen storage.
• Work independently on nights in a busy 426-bed acute care/MAGNET hospital, handling approximately 30–50 samples per day with high-volume type/screen and crossmatch activity.
• Utilize Epic, Blood Bank software, and laboratory instrumentation while maintaining quality assurance, infection-control, and hazardous-materials procedures.
