Experience & License Requirements

• Minimum 2 years L&D experience
• Active California RN license
• BLS — AHA required
• ACLS — AHA required
• NRP — required
• AWHONN Fetal Monitoring certification or equivalent — required
• Previous/current professional license or certification discipline must be disclosed
• Criminal convictions other than minor traffic violations must be disclosed

L&D Department

• 8 LDR rooms
• 2 triage rooms
  • Also serve as pre-op for C-sections
• 2 operating rooms
• 2 PACU beds
• High-risk patient population due to high diabetic population
• Does not perform inductions before 39 weeks
• External versions performed on day shift
• Second-trimester cerclages performed on day shift

Nurse-to-Patient Ratios

• 1:1 when patient is 6 cm or greater dilated
• 1:1 for magnesium drips
• 1:1 for insulin drips
• 1:2 for other patients
• For scheduled C-sections, RN follows the patient through the entire care process until sign-off

Charting / Equipment

• L&D Charting: MEDITECH PCS
• Surgical Charting: MEDITECH ORM
• Fetal Surveillance: OBIX
• Medication Administration: Pyxis
• IV Pumps: Solaris
• WOWs: Provided to each RN
• Scrubs: Provided for L&D travelers

Weekend / Scheduling

• 3–4 weekend shifts per 28-day schedule
• Self-scheduling available in Women's Services
• Staff receive scheduling priority before travelers
• Leadership balances the final schedule based on experience and skill set

Orientation

• Orientation offered Mondays only
• Starts with Human Resources:
  • Paperwork
  • Badge
• Occupational Health:
  • Respiratory fit test
• Nursing Education:
  • Unit-specific testing
• Medication test required on first day
• L&D receives 3–4 unit orientation shifts before taking patients
• Clinical preceptor provided during orientation

Compliance Requirements

• Resume must include:

  • Highest education, degree and graduation month/year
• Agency names cannot be listed as employers
• Skills checklist completed within 1 year

• License verification within 30 days
• Nursys accepted
• 9-panel drug screen within 1 year
• Physical within 1 year
• MMR, Varicella, Hep B documentation
• Flu vaccine/declination for assignments between Nov. 1–Mar. 31
• Tdap within 10 years
• TB testing annually
• Background check within 30 days, including all aliases
• OIG and SAM checks required
• Specialty competency exam with 80% passing score
• Joint Commission Core I, II & III training with 80% passing score
• Valid state-issued photo ID
• California meal waiver required
• RN Pyxis modules required
• ACLS, NRP and Fetal Heart Monitoring documentation required

Guaranteed Hours

• 36 hours/week

Key Candidate Requirements
