Registered Nurse – Labor and Delivery

Location: La Plata, MD 20646
Start Date: 10/19/2026
Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift: Night 3x12-Hour (19:00 - 07:30)
Schedule: Choice of 3x12 or 4x12 nights; every other weekend
Patient Ratio: 1:2
Charting System: Epic
Float Required: Yes – within all areas of L&D and Mother-Baby/Postpartum
Call Requirement: None
Note: NCC C-EFM must be in hand at submission; STABLE required. Holiday coverage required as scheduled.

Position Overview:

Labor & Delivery RN providing care across L&D, Mother-Baby/Postpartum, triage, antepartum, and delivery areas. The unit includes a 4-bed LDR, 1 OR, 2 triage/antepartum rooms, a 12-bed Mother-Baby unit, and a Level I Well Baby Nursery. Approximately 50–60 deliveries are performed monthly, typically caring for patients 35 weeks gestation and above.

Job duties:

• Perform comprehensive maternal and fetal assessments, including continuous external/internal fetal monitoring and recognition of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns.
• Manage labor and delivery care, including vaginal deliveries, C-sections, forceps/vacuum extractions, and postpartum recovery.
• Administer and monitor medications including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, antihypertensives, terbutaline, prostaglandins, and IV therapies.
• Provide newborn care including APGAR scoring, thermoregulation, identification/security banding, newborn assessments, and neonatal stabilization.
• Provide postpartum care including fundus/lochia assessment, Foley catheter management, wound care, breastfeeding support, and patient/family education.

Requirements:
License: Active Maryland RN or Compact RN license required at time of submission.
Experience: 2+ year of L&D experience.
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NCC C-EFM, STABLE; NRP and CPI required per compliance requirements.
Other requirement: NCC C-EFM must be in hand at time of submission. AHA BLS/ACLS required. Must be comfortable working across L&D and Mother-Baby/Postpartum areas.

Patient Ratios: 1:2 days, nights, and weekends
Patient Population: Neonates, infants, adolescents, adults, pediatrics, and geriatrics; primarily obstetric patients and newborns
Patient Diagnoses: Pregnancy-induced hypertension, postpartum hemorrhage, cesarean section, vaginal delivery, and related obstetric conditions.
